COGIC Chronicles: Bishop Charles Brown Victims Speak Out as Overcomers of Sexual Abuse in the Church
The spiritual head of a local Pentecostal denomination has been arrested and booked with sexual battery on a teenage girl more than 23 years ago. New Orleans court records show that Bishop Charles E. Brown, 58, was released on $25,000 bond yet later raised to $1 million dollar bond.
The woman, now in her thirties, said at the time Brown was her aunt's boyfriend, and the acts occurred at his home.
She told police Brown recently reached out and asked to "friend" her on Facebook. She told him she knew him to be an abuser and decided then to go to the police, the affidavit said.
Then, devastating news broke when The Church of God in Christ lifted the suspension of a New Orleans bishop after a judge ruled that the charges of forcible rape, sexual battery and indecent behavior brought against him were too old to prosecute.
On March 6th, a statement from the church said its General Board had removed the suspension against Bishop Charles E. Brown and would have no further comment. The statement did not indicate that the denomination sought to interview the alleged victims. Brown was unavailable.
So, as you can see, the Bishop appeared to get off pretty easily earlier this year but now so fast Mister Brown. Apparently, the victims of Bishop Charles Brown have come forward and are speaking publicly.

NOTE: AT2W will return with our review and take on the interviews of these brave women who faced and overcame sexual abuse in the church.
