Victory Christian Ex-Employee Chris Denman Pleads Guilty on Sex Abuse Charges

Victory Christian Ex-Employee Chris Denman Pleads Guilty on Sex Abuse Charges

A former employee of a Tulsa megachurch, Chris Denman is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. He has pleaded guilty this week in court to six sex-crime charges.

Chris Denman, 20, faces up to life in prison since his entering his guilty plea. He is due back in court Dec. 12 for sentencing.

In August, Denman was accused of raping the girl on the campus of Victory Christian Center. Consequently, Denman was also charged with molesting a 15-year-old girl and making a lewd proposal to a 12-year-old girl.

He pleaded guilty on Monday to the following charges filed against him:
  1. first-degree rape
  2. forcible oral sodomy of a child
  3. lewd molestation
  4. lewd proposal to a child
  5. and two counts of using a computer to facilitate a sex crime
Denman's plea was not a result of an agreement with prosecutors. They, however, plan to call an "aggravation hearing" at his sentencing to demonstrate the need for a tough sentence.

Denman told a judge at Monday's hearing that he made the decision on his own to accept the plea deal.

The Associated Press reported:
Five employees of the church also face misdemeanor charges for allegedly waiting two weeks to report the alleged rape. They have pleaded not guilty and are due in court Wednesday.
The 13-year-old's mother has sued the church seeking more than $75,000. She claims the church sought "damage control" rather than pursuing the case properly.

Memoir Details Sexual Assault by Defrocked Clergy Member

Press Release from PRNewsWire

(CHICAGO) – In a newly released memoir, Betrayed By The State: A Ward of the State Speaks Out, Illinois-based author John Bernadyn describes his struggle growing up as a youth ward of the state. “My goal is to get the word out that youth are experiencing struggles that even grown-ups are unable to cope with,” Bernadyn said.

After detailing, often graphically, a troubled childhood experience with a dysfunctional home, Bernadyn spends time discussing his experience being sexually assaulted in a state facility. He alleges that the perpetrator was John Woulfe, a former religious brother as part of the Marianists.

Bernadyn doesn’t stop there, though. In Chapter 8 of his book, what can only be described as heart-wrenching and graphically depicted, he lays a visual and emotional scene for the reader as to his experiences.

Boy Scout Sex Abuse Lists of 1,200 Suspected Child Abusers

Boy Scout Abuse Lists of 1,200 Suspected Child Abusers

Forty-five people from Massachusetts are listed in the secret “perversion files” maintained by the Boy Scouts of America that were released last Thursday by an Oregon legal team under an order from the Oregon Supreme Court.

The hometowns of Massachusetts residents listed in the Scouts’ ineligible volunteer files were spread across the state, from South Boston to Pittsfield. The files contained 44 names and one person listed as unknown.

The files listed approximately 1,200 alleged child molesters from across the country who were accused of abuse between 1965 and 1985, Clark said on his website. The alleged abusers were barred from serving with the Scouts.

Here's one on the list of names that were confirmed through The Globe:

Donn W. Kruger is from Massachusetts.
When lived in Pepperell in 1980, he joined a troop in that town and resigned in December 1982, according to his file.
He was convicted that month of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14, according to the database of the State Sex Offender Registry Board.
“The person involved has not been involved in Scouting since the incident and has indeed kept a very low profile,” a Scout official wrote of Kruger in a 1985 memo, which was included in his file. The official also wrote that the victim was not a Scout.
Kruger, now 70, was convicted on similar charges in 1998 and 2005 and is currently incarcerated, according to the state database.
Other men named in the files could not be reached for comment Thursday night, and the Globe is not naming anyone it could not confirm has been criminally charged. Some names were listed on the state offender database, but it could not be confirmed that they were the same people.

One law firm lists many of the said names of alleged sex abuse suspects form the Boy Scouts of America on their website.

The files were introduced in a 2010 Oregon civil suit that the Scouts lost, and the Oregon Supreme Court ruled the files should be made public. Lawyer Kelly Clark of Portland posted the files online Thursday after the Scouts had fought against their publication in the courts, he said on his website.
Here's another name from the list and his story:
Another Bay State case made public was that of an Ayer man (remaining nameless) who, while volunteering with a troop in that town in the 1970s, “engaged in sexual acts” with a 12-year-old Scout, said an entry in the man’s file.
One entry in his file states that he “has admitted to a morals offense against one of our scouts.”
“The family, including the scout, fortunately have decided not to prosecute,” the file says.
Here's one more sex abuse suspect and his story on file:
In addition, a former Catholic seminary student from Dorchester who admitted to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Scout at Thompson’s Island in 1969 was listed with the names released, according to his file.
He also admitted to committing lewd acts in front of scouts at various time during troop meetings, the filing states. The man received a suspended prison sentence for his actions and was later treated by a therapist, he wrote in a letter to scout officials asking to be admitted to a South Boston troop. That request was denied.
“I admit I did something terribly wrong, and never have denied that fact,” the man wrote in his letter. “But through therapy, I was able to see the underlying causes. … I can assure you there is no further problem and can document this. How many other Scoutmasters can?”
Thomas Nut-Powell was a scout from 1955-1961 in State College, Penn., who now lives in Brookline. He said he was never aware of any abuse or cover-ups, but he sent back his Eagle Scout award over the Scouts’ policy of not admitting gays.
“How is it that people so give in to this lust that they go to a place where good things are supposed to happen and make it bad?” he said.
The Associated Press reported that the 14,500 pages of the files showed that decade after decade, an array of authorities — police chiefs, prosecutors, pastors, and local Boy Scout leaders among them — shielded scoutmasters and others accused of molesting children.

“Where those involved in Scouting failed to protect, or worse, inflicted harm on children, we extend our deepest apologies to victims and their families.”

The Boy Scouts added that the organization is now “a leader” among youth organizations in terms of protecting children from abuse.

After decades of secret abuse, NOW they want to lead the way on protecting children from abuse!! Absolutely, shameful!

Boy Scout Leader and Church Daycare Worker Admits He Molested Boys in the 1970's

Thomas Menghi Junior church worker arrested

Boy Scout Leader and Church Daycare Worker Admits He Molested Boys in the 1970's

We can clearly see how God is revealing the dirty deeds of the boy scouts organization, one by one!
According to the church pastor, Rush Otey of Selywn Avenue Presbyterian Church, Thomas Menghi Jr. worked at the church's daycare starting in 2002.

Just last week during an interview with the Associated Press, Menghi admitted that he molested as many as 10 boys from Troop 786 in Fayetteville in the early 1970s.

As the news has recently announced, Menghi was just one of many thousands of former scout leaders named in secret files on suspected abusers kept by the Boy Scouts of America and released under a recent court order.

Here's what Menghi told the Associated Press:
He said was usually drunk when he had sex with boys.
He was in his late 20s, living in a Fayetteville motel and working as Tupperware deliveryman.
He invited boys from Troop 786 as young as 11 years old to ride with him along his route, requesting that they come to his room to spend the night before so they could get an early start.
"Yes, I abused kids," Menghi, now 69, admitted in an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press. "But just how many and other details I can't remember. It was a long time ago and I was in a fog."
Pastor Otey told WBTV that: "At no time during Mr. Menghi's employment were there hints, suspicions, observations, or allegations of any inappropriate conduct related to sexual abuse, molestation, or neglect of duties," a statement from the church obtained by WBTV said.
"Had there been such accusations from any child, parent, supervisor, volunteer, or co-worker, this would have been reported immediately to the proper authorities, and Mr. Menghi (or any other employee or volunteer associated with the Church or Child Development Center) would have been suspended or terminated."
Menghi cleared every criminal records check by the Selwyn CDC and the State of North Carolina, and every other reference check, the church told WBTV.

They first learned about the connection on Thursday when the article was published.

The Boys Scouts of America Public Relations released a statement saying:
"There have been instances where our efforts to protect youth were plainly insufficient, inappropriate, or wrong. Where those involved in Scouting failed to protect, or worse, inflicted harm on children, we extend our deepest and sincere apologies to victims and their families" .

Happy 3rd Birthday AT2W!

We want to announce to you that we are celebrating our 3rd birthday month!! Hooray!!
We are very excited for how God has blessed AT2W this past year and without our faithful readers, new visitors and readers- we would not be an existence. We appreciate you so much and enjoy you visiting with us everyday.

When we think about when we started  on Oct 9th, 2009, we were not very clear on our purpose exactly but we finally found our true niche. We received much opposition because of our strong beliefs and views at first but many people began to appreciate what we really wanted to convey on this blog.

Our small staff worked very hard to convey very passionate yet revealing stories and articles about celebrity life, the church, gospel music and latest news. We have a passion to reveal the truth behind what people are really doing and how it effects all of us and our children. We think we have done a pretty good job at it according to your responses.

World Changers Church Shooting: Why Aren't Some Churches Covered By the Blood of Jesus?

World Changers Church Shooting: Why Aren't Some Churches Covered By the Blood of Jesus?
Do you think Pastor Creflo Dollar showed enough concern about the recently murdered church employee of his church? Well, it seems so to us in his address to the church but we just wish that the church was safe enough to avoid this. We don't understand why this huge megachurch worth millions of dollars and employs several security agents, could not safeguard this from happening?  We realize danger will strike at anytime and at any place. We realize the church, per say, is always on a persecuted radar. We just wonder why these kind of things happen if the ministry is God fitting. We feel that many modern churches today do not have the anointing and the presence of the Holy Ghost to cover and protect the sheep that support the shepherd. We don't care what anyone says: If a church leader is...

Missouri Pastor Travis Smith Re-Arrested on Multiple Rape Charges

Missouri Pastor Travis Smith Re-Arrested on Multiple Rape Charges

Missouri Baptist Convention officials are watching a member church whose pastor was arrested recently on sexual abuse charges a year after his previous acquittal of child molestation.
Travis Smith, 42, of California, Mo., appeared for arraignment Oct. 16 in Moniteau County court.
He faces charges of:
  • forcible rape
  • statutory rape
  • and sexual abuse
These are all alleged to have occurred in 1998, statutory rape in 1999 and statutory rape and sodomy in 2005.
Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church in Stover, Mo., since 2006, was found not guilty on Sept. 28, 2011, by a jury in Morgan County of misdemeanor child molestation of a 14-year-old girl in 2009. A separate charge of statutory rape was dropped because that accuser turned out to have been 17, the age of consent in Missouri, rather than 15 as first claimed when their alleged improper relationship began.
Well, isn't the age of consent a great law here! Does it really erase the fact that he sought after young teens for sex?

The First Baptist Church, Stover, website listed Smith as its pastor as of Oct. 23. Local media reported Oct. 3 that church members were standing by their pastor despite the charges. Community residents countered with a vigil on behalf of his alleged victims, protesting a church fish fry that was described in conflicting media reports as a show of support for Smith and an annual church event that just happened to coincide with news of the arrest.
“We are aware of the situation at First Baptist Church, Stover, and are in contact with the association's director of missions, who is working closely with the pastor and the church,” Phillips said in an e-mail.
“While we respect the independence of the local church and have no direct authority over it, we are deeply grieved by the allegations,” Phillips said. “We pray that the courts will administer justice fairly and swiftly, and that there will be healing among the wounded church members. We also pray the church members will have the wisdom, grace and courage to act biblically in their dealings with their pastor.”
Pastor Travis Smith is out of jail on $70,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m., Nov. 13, in Moniteau County Judicial Circuit 26 in California, Mo., before Associate Circuit Judge Peggy Richardson.

The charges against him carry penalties ranging from a minimum of a year in prison up to life, depending on circumstances.

Detroit Pastor's Church Sued For Not Preventing His Sexual Assault on Teen Victim

Pastor Christopher Settlemoir arrested on sexual abuse

Detroit Pastor's Church Sued For Not Preventing His Sexual Assault on Teen Victim

A lawsuit claims officials at a Warren church should have stopped a former pastor from influencing a 15-year-old boy he later sexually assaulted.

The civil suit filed against the Antioch Baptist Church and Academy in Warren also claims Christopher Settlemoir shouldn’t have been hired because officials knew about his pedophilic tendencies.
According to the report and the complaint in Macomb County Court: "Defendant Antioch hired the pedophile Christopher Settlemoir as a teacher, pastor and principal even though defendant Settlemoir, while still in college, began showing signs of sexual perversion by racking up $100 in gay porn charges on the cable at the apartment where he was staying as part of the pastor internship program.
"Defendant Settlemoir was eventually kicked out of the internship program for not adhering to the rules, which included bringing teen-age boys to his apartment and being along with the boys for 'Movie Night.'"
In his own case, Doe says: "For a period of 14 months, the pedophile Christopher Settlemoir openly and freely vetted, targeted and then sexually abused, exploited and raped John Doe in his office during school hours as well as in defendant Christopher Settlemoir's house and/or within the domains of other property under the control of defendant Antioch Baptist Church and/or its agents."
Settlemoir last year pleaded no contest to charges he sexually assaulted the boy and accosted another. The 29-year-old former Warren resident is serving a seven- to 15-year prison term.
Christopher Settlemoir, Antioch Baptist Church

John Doe claims he was younger than 14 when he was repeatedly raped and sodomized in 2009-10 by defendant Christopher Settlemoir, a "29-year-old serial pedophile who was posing as a man of God, a church pastor and a parochial school principal of the defendant Antioch Baptist Church dba Antioch Baptist Academy."
The Macomb Daily reported the suit filed Friday in Macomb County Circuit Court by “John Doe” seeks more than $25,000 in damages and claims a minor child was assaulted “dozens of times” while staff turned a “blind eye.”

UPDATE: Doe is now suing for $10 million for assault and battery and negligence.
Doe also sued Settlemoir's wife, who is or was a teacher at the academy, other employees and the 10 members of the church's board of directors, who allegedly knew about Settlemoir's molestations but failed to stop them.
Doe claims that Eunice Settlemoir, the pastor's wife, "attempted to conceal and later recruited other members of the defendant Antioch to destroy a laptop belonging to her husband to prevent police from obtaining evidence of the molestation and rape of John Doe."

Boy Scouts and Catholic Church Parallel: Worked Together to Keep Abuse Silent?

Boyscout and Catholic Church Parellel in Sexual Abuse Cover up

Boy Scouts and Catholic Church Parallel: Worked Together to Keep Abuse Silent?

We are totally disgusted with not only the boy scouts sexual abuse cover up but we can not believe that the Catholic church, of all denominations, would be a part of this scandal. Why must he Catholic church be a part of so much downright perversion? We all better start examining this church organization and others and their association with groups who prey on our children. Who would have known that our boys were in danger of abuse in the Boy Scouts of America?
Read report below for the latest:
After Catholic priest Gilbert Gauthe was found to be a child molester in 1974, then-Lafayette Bishop Gerard Frey decided a change was in order. So the next year, Gauthe was assigned extra duties. He became chaplain of the diocesan Boy Scouts. Any pedophile would have whooped, and Gauthe took full advantage.
This was a set up from the beginning! What kind of 'change' was really made except that he had even more access to young boys?!!
The Scouts, as their just-released "perversion files" prove, shared the Catholic Church's determination to shield criminals, sacrificing the innocence of young charges in a doomed attempt to maintain a wholesome public image.
Louisiana always figured prominently in the scandals that engulfed both institutions nationwide. Gauthe was the first to be unmasked in the endless succession of predatory priests who enjoyed years of episcopal protection. After Gauthe pleaded guilty in 1985, and was sentenced to 20 years in the state pen, Rev. Kenneth Doyle, spokesman for the U.S. Catholic Conference in Washington, said: "We don't want to give the impression that it's a rampant problem for the church, because it's not."
Yeah, right, Rev. Doyle!
Then, New Orleans journalist Jason Berry, who covered the case, wrote a book predicting years of turmoil and multimillion-dollar court judgments against the church. You know who got that one right. The buggers were rampant for sure.
Thank you  Jason Berry for your work. It was much needed to expose these perverts in the church and in the boy scouts organization.
We can't say whether Bishop Frey at the time doubted the wisdom of consigning Boy Scouts to the care of a known pedophile, but news reports did offer plenty of clues.
In 1976, four adult Scout leaders were arrested in New Orleans for running a troop where underprivileged boys were recruited for sexual exploitation. It was the movement's first high-profile sex scandal in America.
The "perversion files" reveal that Scout authorities have been reluctant to report abuse to the police, or to the parents of victims, and the parallel with the Catholic church is obvious. But these are not the only institutions inclined to cast a veil over their own sins.
There's so much more to read and you can do so at Nola.com.

Hearing For Victory Christian Center Abuse Suspect Gets Pushed Forward

Report from Houston's CBS news

Prosecutors told a judge Tuesday that more witnesses or victims could come forward as police examine more deeply allegations of sex crimes at a 17,000-member megachurch deep in the Bible Belt.
Israel Castillo, 23, a former janitor at the Victory Christian Center, attended court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday after being accused of making a lewd proposal to a 15-year-old girl, but Tulsa County Special Judge Clifford Smith postponed proceedings until Nov. 29 after lawyers for the state said new information was forthcoming from at least one person. Castillo’s lawyer and the church said they knew nothing of it.
“I was prepared this morning to announce to the court that my client and I were ready to proceed with the preliminary hearing,” lawyer Hugh Hood wrote in an email. “Mr. Castillo has entered a plea of not guilty. I will continue to demand that his due process rights are protected throughout these proceedings.”
Castillo, who also is charged with using a computer in an alleged sex crime, is free on bond pending the hearing.
Citing the ongoing investigation, Assistant District Attorney Kali Strain wouldn’t say who may step forward — another alleged victim or a witness. Tulsa Police Detective Cpl. Greg Smith, who works in the child crisis unit, said investigators are speaking with “a couple people,” but that it was too soon to label them.
“At this point, I would consider them witnesses,” Smith said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. “The district attorney wanted to give us more time” to determine how they relate to the case.

Floyd Palmer, the church shooting suspect that calmly entered the church and fatally shot a volunteer, was arrested Wednesday and pleaded guilty to shooting a man a decade ago in Baltimore and was committed to a mental health facility there.
Reports from AJC stated:
Floyd Palmer, 52, calmly walked into a prayer service Wednesday morning at the College Park megachurch founded by the Rev. Creflo Dollar and opened fire as 20 to 25 people watched in horror. Greg McDowell, 39, fell mortally wounded and Palmer, a former church employee, “left just as calmly” as he entered, Fulton County police spokeswoman Cpl. Kay Lester said.

Archdiocese of Miami's Statement Reveals A Move to Action in Placing Fr. Rolando Garcia on LOA

Archdiocese of Miami's Statement Reveals A Move to Action in Placing Fr. Rolando Garcia on LOA

Statement of Archdiocese of Miami
Regarding Fr. Rolando Garcia
Wednesday, October 24, 2012

The Archdiocese of Miami has announced that Fr. Roland Garcia, pastor of St. Agatha Catholic Church, was placed on administrative leave today due to an allegation brought forth against him by Mr. Tony Simmons yesterday, October 22, 2012.

The Archdiocese had no prior notice of this allegation before yesterday's press conference announcing this latest lawsuit against Fr. Rolando Garcia and the Archdiocese of Miami.

Upon learning of this allegation, the Archdiocese, in addition to having placed Father Garcia on administrative leave, the Archdiocese will offer counseling to the alleged victim and conduct an investigation following procedures outlined in Protecting God's Children.

This past August, when an allegation was made against Fr. Garcia, the Archdiocese contacted him while Father was on vacation in Cuba. At that time, Archbishop Wenski placed Father Garcia on administrative leave and instructed that he not return to St. Agatha's until an investigation had been complete. Fr. Garcia was extremely cooperative and voluntarily took a lie detector test that supported his denial of having abused anyone at any time. At that time, the Archdiocese also interviewed the alleged victim.

With the investigation completed and upon the recommendation of the Archdiocesan Review Board, it was determined that the allegation was not credible. Archbishop Wenski returned Fr. Garcia to his parish following his ten-day leave. Upon his return, Fr. Garcia read his statement at every Mass on the August 24-25, 2012, providing full disclosure of the allegation and the outcome of the investigation. Subsequent to these events, lawsuit was filed against Fr. Garcia and the Archdiocese of Miami.

Victory Christian Centers Employ PR Firm to 'Manage' Allegations Sex Abuse Cover Up

The leaders of Victory Christian Center are now trying to repair some of those unfavorable decisions they made in the allegations of sexual abuse of a 13 year old girl on their church campus by alleged church employees.

Five church officials are facing charges for delaying as long as two weeks to report the girl's suspected rape.

Some have said that the church did what they could in this instance to handle the allegations at hand. We agree that they tackled the issues by speaking with the victim and suspects. We even agree that firing the said suspects showed their willingness to combat against any other attacks and showed responsibility. What we do not agree with is:
  1. having a 13 year old address this issue without her parents present
  2. not involving or notifying the parents of this discussion with their affected child
  3. firing suspects (in so many ways doing their own investigation) without proper police involvement
  4. Only contacting the parents and authorities TWO WEEKS after their investigation.

This was a criminal investigation and should have been given to the local authorities to handle. The church made steps to correct but it was beyond their jurisdiction.

As reported last week, John and Charica Daugherty, two ministers at Victory Christian, filed motions to have the case against them dropped. They are claiming that they were not responsible for the girl or her rapist while they were on the campus, and therefore cannot be charged with failing to report child abuse.

The Christian Post reported:
The firm is the Tulsa-based Schnake Turnbo Franke PR. The account executive who is handling the Victory case is Jarrod Kopp. On the firm's website, Kopp's biography says "there’s no telling what he’ll pull from his bag of tricks." Kopp can be reached at 918-277-1189 or 918-430-3011.
We are afraid of what 'tricks' they will use, God forbid.

"Instead of spending tens of thousands of donated dollars to dodge, deflect and deceive, church officials should spend that money on ensuring that kids are safe” said Barbara Dorris of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.

“Basically, almost every step that Victory Christian has in this horrible situation was the wrong one,” said Dorris. “Instead of protecting kids and helping police, they are protecting themselves and hiring PR people.”

"Police and prosecutors say serious child sex crimes and cover ups happened at Victory Christian. This is time for being honest, protecting kids and healing victims, not time for using gimmicks or PR 'magic',” said Dorris.

Creflo Dollar's World Changers Church Shooting: Church Employee Shot Dead by Former Employee

What is going on in these megachurches? We reported last week a carjacking with a child inside the vehicle at Atlanta's New Birth Church, led by Bishop Eddie Long. Though the child and car were found unharmed, here we are again with another tragedy in a church.

Read report below and then our take, of course at the bottom of the post.

CNN reports that at least one person was shot Wednesday morning around 10:30 a.m. at Atlanta megachurch of pastor Creflo Dollar, World Changers Church International. The local authorities are looking for the gunman, police say. MyFoxAtlanta.com says a well dressed man walked into the church and opened fire a gun inside a chapel and then fled in a vehicle.

Franciscan Priest arrested For Stealing Church Money and Running Off with Woman

Father Sime Nimac was arrested

Franciscan Priest arrested For Stealing Church Money and Running Off with Woman

Report from Telegraph:
Father Sime Nimac was arrested in a Zagreb flat after disappearing from his parish near the coastal town of Split with a huge amount of cash he had got from selling a piece of Church land without the permission of his diocese.
Described by his Franciscan order as a man with "insatiable egotism", the 34-year-old clergyman has been charged with abuse of office and had his passport confiscated to prevent him fleeing the country.
Croatian media has speculated that Father Nimac may have used the money from the land sale, which was concluded five months ago, to fuel a lavish lifestyle that included fine clothes, cars, a yacht called "Lucky Me" and the attentions of a married woman.
Despite his arrest he has so far refused to divulge where the money is, or what has happened to it, and police searches of his home and the Zagreb apartment where he was arrested have drawn a blank.
Father Nimac has admitted to selling the land and keeping the money, according to Croatian magazine Index, but he has rejected allegations of theft. He will, according to the magazine, reveal the location of the money when he conducts his own defense.

GA Church Deacon arrested for Molesting Two Toddlers and Images of Child Porn

St. Marys Police officers arrested Clinton Jones Rivers, a deacon at a Kingsland church, October 10 at a home on Thoroughbred Road in St. Marys on two counts of sexual exploitation of children.
He's being accused of molesting a 4 year old and 7 year old.

Back in July 2012, the St. Marys Police Department received a tip which said two children, ages 4 and 7, were possible victims of child sexual abuse. The St. Marys Police Department Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation into these allegations and learned from the children involved that Mr. Rivers was touching them inappropriately on their "private areas."

Police reports say Mr. Rivers exposed the 7 year old to pornography on his home computer. Mr. Rivers was initially arrested on two counts of child molestation and one count of furnishing obscene materials to minors.
Police also took several electronic devices including personal-use computer hard drives, discs, homemade pornographic DVDs, and other digital storage devices. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations says the items included images of what appeared to be very young children engaged in sexual conduct. The pediatric specialist was able to state that the images appeared to be of children ages 12 and younger.
The St. Marys Police Department identified 112 pornographic DVDs which contained a variety of pornographic behavior ranging from homosexual to bestiality. The homosexual pornography appeared to involve teenage males, but exact ages of the participants have not been determined at this point.
Police are now working to find the children involved. If you know anything, call the St. Marys Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 912-882-4488.
People like these kinds need rehabilitation but also need to be out of the presence of children and out of the church! We are praying for the victims as well as the suspect to be redeemed in his spirit.

Scandalized Pastor Ted Haggard Should ‘Sit Down' on Same Sex Marriage Issues

Ted Haggard, the disgraced-then-revived evangelical Colorado pastor notorious for a 2006 drug and gay sex scandal that saw him booted from the pulpit of the 14,000-member church he helped found, now believes the state should legalize same-sex marriage.

Read our take on the issue below! It's the truth's truth!!

That’s what Haggard argued in an online debate Monday with Rabbi Benjamin Hecht, director of Orthodox Jewish think tank Nishma. The pastor, who in 2011 started a small, inclusive church in the basement of his Colorado Springs home, made a nuanced yet affirmative argument responding to the debate prompt, “Should same-sex marriage be allowed by the state?."

Ted Haggard says:

"If someone is dealing with same-sex attraction or homosexuality,...

Oklahoma's Victory Christian Center Accused of Protecting Ministry from Sex Abuse Allegations

Oklahoma's Victory Christian Center Accused of Protecting Ministry from Sex Abuse Allegations

Well, we called this situation a cover up from the very beginning because it had all of the tell tale signs of one. We are glad that people see this and are doing something about it.

Report below says:
A national clergy abuse watchdog group blasted a Tulsa megachurch Thursday for doing "damage control" to protect the ministry's image instead of showing concern for a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped on its property.
Five employees of Victory Christian Center, a worldwide ministry with 17,000 members located in south Tulsa, face misdemeanor charges for waiting two weeks after the alleged Aug. 13 rape to report it to authorities.
The employees, including the son and daughter-in-law of ministry co-founder and head pastor Sharon Daugherty, are charged with failing to report the alleged assault.
"Again, here we go with these ministers putting their reputations ahead of the sa fety of the kids," said Barbara Dorris, the outreach director for the Chicago-based Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
That is exactly how we feel. These ministers only care about their reputations even after they violate those most vulnerable to them!

All employees of the church who have been charged: John Daugherty, Charica Daugherty, Paul Willemstein, Anna George and Harold "Frank" Sullivan each face one misdemeanor count of failing to report child abuse. They have all pleaded not guilty and are due in court on Oct. 31.

The most recent news coming from the church is the announcement of the five employees would soon return to the ministry by month's end but with different duties and different supervisors to report to. Again, the ministry and church only ready and willing to return to 'business as usual' instead of covering those inflicted by their staff members. Goodness gracious!
Last week, an attorney representing John and Charica Daugherty, filed a motion in district court arguing that the charges be thrown out because no one in the case has been, nor can be, charged with child abuse under Oklahoma law.
The court document, filed by attorney Jason Robertson, argues that state law defines child abuse as an act committed "by a person responsible for the child's health safety or welfare." It says that 20-year-old Chris Denman, who is charged with first-degree rape of the girl and other sex crimes, was not a church employee at the time of the assault, and was not responsible for the girl — and cannot under state law be charged with child abuse.
Our friends at SNAP dismissed the motion on Thursday, saying instead of trying to figure out why Denman was allowed access to the building and able to victimize the young girl, the ministry was looking "to absolve themselves of liability using legal technicalities."
"It boggles the mind; you can't understand the reasoning why they decide the institution is more valuable than the child," Dorris said. "You cannot fathom a reason why you would not call the police immediately."
SNAP argues there are no technicalities when it comes to one's rights.

Miami Priest Rolando Garcia and Others Accused of Covering Up Sexual Crimes

Miami Priest Rolando Garcia and Others Accused of Covering Up Sexual Crimes

It's bad enough that many of these tainted pastors, priests, minister, etc do the unthinkable to members of the church they minister to, but to have the gall to cover up and lie about it, is just downright despicable.

Here's the report:

A Miami Catholic priest, Father Rolando Garcia is accused of sexual abuse is facing new allegations he tried to cover up the abuse of a boy by another priest, the alleged victim and his attorney said.
The alleged victim, who wants to remain anonymous, says Father Rolando Garcia of St. Agatha Catholic Church knew that a fellow priest, identified as Father Cristobal De Jesus Puertas, was abusing him as a child and he did nothing to stop it.
"He was paying me to keep it quiet when Father Puertas was raping me," the man said Thursday. "I'm furious...I don't know how they allow it, I don't understand."
The man reached out to attorney Jeff Herman after learning that one of Herman's clients, who was reportedly abused by Garcia about 30 years ago, filed suit against the Archdiocese of Miami. Garcia, who remains at St. Agatha, has adamantly denied the abuse charges.
According to the Archdiocese, a different attorney filed a lawsuit in 2010 against Father Puertas over the alleged abuse, but the victim, during the investigation, stated he never reported the abuse to anyone.
Herman said the lawsuit claims the allegations were covered up by Garcia.
"That fact, in and of itself, in my opinion makes Father Garcia unsafe to be around children," Herman said.
The allegations that the abuse was covered up by Garcia "were found to be inaccurate," the Archdiocese said in a statement. "There was a settlement involving Fr. Puertas who is no longer a priest in the Archdiocese of Miami but no settlement involving Fr. Garcia."
The Archdiocese also said attorney Herman brought a lawsuit against the Archdiocese in 200, in which named Garcia and other priests involved, but when the lawsuit was settled the allegations against Garcia were deemed not credible.
Parents at St. Agatha have started an online petition to have him removed from the church.
"I'm upset this man is preaching to hundreds of people over there and he's wearing a mask," the man said. "This man needs to be removed."
This priest and his cohorts will see the light of day when God takes over. Just give time, time and God will see the victims get their victory and those who have committed the sins and the cover up will be punished. There really is no way out when God takes over. We can count on that!!

Here's the petition to have Father Rolando Garcia removed. We have already signed it. Will you?

Mobile Pastor Cederick McMillan Convicted of Sexually Abusing Teen Relative, Faces 20 Years

An Alabama jury convicted a local pastor, Cederick McMillan of sexually abusing a teenage girl.

They found Cederick McMillan, 27, guilty of second-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse.

McMillan is pastor of New Birth Community Church in Mobile and helped found Prichard Preparatory Academy. The authorities accused him of 'sexually touching and having oral sex with a girl when she was 14 years old in 2007.'

Cederick McMillan convicted of sexual abuse of a relative

McMillan faces a prison from 2 to 20 years in prison on the sodomy charge. Before the accusations, the pastor had no criminal record nor did he have a reputation for violence. The pastor's attorney is hoping there is a way to punish him without prison time.

The defense noted that the police recieved a complaint against his clergyman clieht nearly 3 years after the alleged incident was said to have happened. It's almost like the defense wanted to believe it was alright for a pastor to have sex with a teenage girl.
He argued to the jury that the contact was consensual and occurred after the girl’s 17th birthday. He said his client had broken up with the girl’s mother and later had a fling with the daughter. McMillian served as the Prichard Preparatory Academy’s headmaster from 2005 until Sept. 30, 2009.

"How Should The Church Deal with Sexual Abuse in the Church", Jamacian Writer says

We think Dr Wendel Abel, writer for 'The Gleaner' a Jamaican publican, has hit the nail on the nose. In plain English, the writer has made some great and practical points for steps towards not only acknowledging sexual abuse in the church but also for the victim to find healing and trust in the church once again.
Take a look at a few of the ways the church overall can deal with abuse the correct way:
1. Accept that abuse does exist within the Christian Church and, therefore, become more actively involved in discussing these issues.
2. Don't silence the victim. For many persons when the matter of their abuse is brought to church officials, attempts are made to silence them out of fear that it could ruin a family or cause embarrassment to the church.
"Go pray about it," one young lady was told. Abuse should be dealt with. Victims are too often silenced by shame, guilt, denial and fear. The victim should not be silenced and forced to forgive.
3. Provide opportunity for healing. Sexual violence is a terrifying experience. It is usually experienced with profound horror and pain, and it is more traumatic when it is a repeated experience. The Church preaches a doctrine of forgiveness but people should not be forced into forgiveness without an opportunity to deal with their pain and the terrible emotions associated with abuse.
4. Help victims rebuild trust. Sexual abuse is not only a violation of a human being, it is also a betrayal of trust. Many victims grow up not trusting family, friends, the Church and the community. Many individuals even question their faith and God. One young lady who was repeatedly abused asked, "How could God have allowed this to happen to me?" Provide support for the victim....

Dallas Pastor Tyrone Gordon Church Sex Scandal Claims Total of Six Alleged Victims

Pastor Tyrone Gordon gets two more sex scandal lawsuits

Dallas Pastor Tyrone Gordon Church Sex Scandal Claims Total of Six Alleged Victims

Pastor Tyrone Gordon may have thought his troubles were over but he's now been hit with not one but two more lawsuits claiming sexual abuse by a clergyman. Sorry, but we are happy that more victims or 'could have been victims' are coming forward. We thank God this it!

Thanks goes out to our friends at The Church Lady Blogs for the heads up!

Here's how the two new victims' stories go according the the suits filed:

First of two lawsuits:
Anthony Bollin says he became a member of the church in 1996, and was active in the male chorus and adult Sunday school. He looked up to Gordon, considered him a mentor and spiritual counselor — especially during the early days of November 2010, when Bollin says he was going through a “rocky period.” According to the suit, Gordon said he’d like to hang out with Bollin and began texting him, initially with “uplifting scriptures and motivational messages encouraging Bollin during his difficult time.” As far as Bollin was concerned, theirs was a “pastoral relationship.”
But it was on November 10, 2010 when Bollin's cell phone was disconnected because he had not paid the bill. Pastor Gordon offered to pay the costs of the bill, but only for a 'favor'. Bollin stated the pastor replied: “What are you going to do for me since I did this favor for you?”

The suit alleges Gordon gave Bollin money on more than one occasion as well as asking for favors in return.
The suit says that on November 16, 2010, those spiritually uplifting texts were no longer spiritual in nature: One, says the suit, featured “four sexually explicit pictures of women.”
Bollin alleges that Gordon offered him a job as a bodyguard (sounds like a Eddie Long move) and promised him trips to Los Angeles and Atlanta. At that point, the suit alleges, the texts got far more graphic. Finally, says the suit, Bollin asked Gordon if he were gay, to which Gordon replied that he might be. Bollin says he knew then what the pastor wanted: “some type of sexual relationship.” So he severed all ties with the church and “became deeply depressed and disillusioned.”
The second of two suits:
Christoper Mosley says he went to work for the church in 2006 as a sexton under the supervision of Evelyn Kelly, the church’s director of operations. And he, like Bollin, had financial problems he brought to Gordon’s attention in the hopes a little counseling would steer him through the rough patch.
The suit says Gordon offered to help pay Mosley’s bills, but that each offer came with an invitation to lunch. Mosley refused each one. Finally, he alleges, Gordon asked him, “Are you afraid to go to lunch with your pastor?”
But, eventually, the pastor was able to spend some alone time with Mosley — during an ’06 mission trip to New Orleans, where they, along with other staffers and parishioners, had gone to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. That, Mosley says, is where they finally shared a meal — and a few drinks on Bourbon Street. There, says the suit, Gordon took Mosley “to the area where there were nude women in the windows, where Gordon said, ‘You didn’t know your pastor has it like that.’” Gordon bought Mosley a six-pack of Bud Lite to take back to the hotel; the pastor got himself something a little stronger at the liquor store.
The pastor and Mosley returned to the hotel and Mosley was asked up to his suite. While the pastor answered the door in his underwear, he proceeded to rub his legs seductively while he showed Mosley pornographic photos on his church laptop.

Things came to a halt when Mosley received a phone call from his girlfriend and left. The pastor made sure to assure him first that if he told anyone about this, no one would believe him. 'What happens in New Orleans, stays in New Orleans', Pastor Gordon told the young man.

Ministers of VCC's Pastor Sharon Daugherty Want Charges Dismissed

Ministers of VCC's Pastor Sharon Daugherty Want Charges Dismissed

It's no surprise the ministers at Victory Christian Center, who happen to be the son and daughter-in-law of the senior pastor, would love for the judge to dismiss these horrible charges of concealing information from the authorities regarding a crime in their church!

Read report below:
Two Victory Christian Center youth ministers asked a judge Friday to dismiss the charges of failure to report child abuse against them based on the letter of state law, which they say fails to include the rape of a child as a type of child abuse.
The youth ministers, John Daugherty and Charica Daugherty, were charged in September, along with three other Victory Christian Center employees after they reportedly waited two weeks to report child abuse after a 13-year-old girl reported having been raped at the church. The Daugherty's were charged along with  Paul Willemstein, 32, Anna George, 24, and Harold Frank Sullivan, 73.
John Daugherty is a son of Senior Pastor Sharon Daugherty, and Charica Daugherty is his wife. Sharon Daugherty has not been charged with any crimes.
A former church employee, Chris Denman, 20, has been jailed since Sept. 5 and is charged with six counts of sex crimes against children, including the rape of the 13-year-old girl. The charges also involve two other girls, ages 15 and 12.
Also, another former church employee, Israel Shalom Castillo, 23, is charged with making a lewd or indecent proposal to a child and using a computer to facilitate a sex crime. Those charges involve a fourth alleged victim at the church - a 15-year-old girl.
Friday's motion to dismiss the charges against the Daughertys, filed in Tulsa County District Court, argues that because neither Castillo nor Denman was charged with child abuse, the Daughertys cannot face the charge of "failure to report child abuse."
Employee records show that Denman was released from his position as a Victory Christian intern Aug. 10 and was to return to work as a janitor Aug. 16, according to the motion.
The motion argues that because Denman and Castillo have not been charged with child abuse and cannot be charged with child abuse, the law regarding failure to report child abuse cannot be applied to the Daughertys.

Pastor Paula White's Sermon Attacks Naysayers Who Call her a 'Jezebel'

Paula White came to her own defense in last Sunday's sermon behind the pulpit of the late Pastor Zachery Tim's New Destiny Christian Center. She tells the congregation she doesn't care what people say about her but took out time to call out some of the names she knows people have labelled her as:
"...I hear that I'm a devil, I hear I'm a hoe, I hear I'm a Jezebel, I hear I'm an angel, I hear I'm apostle. I said but I don't really hear any of it because you're never as good as they say and you're never as bad as they say as long as I hear His voice, as long as I know what He (God)'s saying about me."
She's referencing to some of the many things people have called her on the internet and in the church community. We have spoken on her as well and her actions to the public have appeared to be fitting of the names. So, we guess we are naysayers too but with a purpose...

Pastor Schaap's Former Church First Baptist of Hammond Plan Lay Offs

Pastor Jack Schaap's former church layoff staffers

Pastor Schaap's Former Church First Baptist of Hammond Plan Lay Offs

The First Baptist Church of Hammond is laying off  a quarter of the church's staff, a church spokesman confirmed last week.

The layoffs happen to come in the wake of a federal guilty plea by the church's former head Pastor Jack Schaap, who admitted to a sexual relationship with an underage parish girl he had been counseling.

Even though church donations have remained the same, church leaders decided to include a $1 million per year loan payment into its budget, which just happens to forced the church to have to layoff staffers, said Eddie Lapina, the church's interim pastor.
Lapina said outside donations have been used to support the payment, but those have not met expectations. The church took out the loan when it expanded and built its auditorium nearly seven years ago and has $16 million remaining to pay.
“I just have never had to do anything more difficult in my life,” said Lapina of the layoffs, calling people who were laid off excellent workers.
Layoffs began Thursday and may continue through the week, said church spokesman Eddie Wilson. The cuts left the church's radio station, WRTW-FM 90.5, with one employee.
Along with the loan payment, the church has seen a steady decline in donations and gifts since 2008, Wilson said. Lapina estimated donations are down 10 percent from last year.
“In looking at this, it has been a long time coming,” Wilson said. “And we've had some major donors that have not been able to give at the same level as they have."

ACLJ Attorney Fired After Gay Sex Allegations Exposed

ACLJ Attorney Fired After Gay Sex Allegations Exposed

The Washington, DC-based American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) has dismissed one of it's attorneys last week after allegations of gay sexual relationship swirled around the internet.

Here's a statement from the ACLJ,
"The employment of James Matthew Henderson, Sr. with the American Center for Law and Justice - DC ceased effective September 25, 2012. He is no longer affiliated with any ACLJ entity. ACLJ will not comment further on this personnel matter."
According to two separate blogs, Exposed Politics and The Patriot-Ombudsman, Henderson used his Facebook account to engage in activity with two younger men. In published excerpts from the two blogs, Henderson may have provided the men with alcohol and marijuana.

Here's what both blogs reported:
  • The blog Exposed Politics published an unconfirmed report accusing Henderson of creating a fake Facebook page under the alias "Kyle Johnson." The article also featured several videos showing an alleged Henderson driving in his car with a young male.
  • The blog Patriot-Obudsman reveals 2010 conversations which reportedly took place between "Kyle Johnson" and his two male lovers, "Zach Payne", who was reportedly 19 at the time, and "Julius."
"Kyle Johnson" offered marijuana to "Zach Payne" in the back-and-forth Facebook conversations.

The Huffington Post reported they saw Facebook posts by Henderson that may have shown references to his homosexual feelings through his alleged pseudo name 'Kyle Johnson':
"And I hate having live [sic] such a long time wish [sic] such a lie," Johnson writes in one post, as reported by The Huffington Post.
"I have pretty well concluded that for the sake of my own mental health, I am going to have to come clean," Johnson adds.
"I mean walking out of the closet and into the sunshine of day," Johnson concludes.
Reports also state that some written work Henderson did for CBN's Pat Robertson, has been 'scrubbed' from their website. He also taught part time at Regent University which is founded by Pat Robertson.

Henderson, who is married with eight children, issued no statement and his attorney has made no comment either.

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Cleared of Racial Discrimination Charges By Former Black Employee

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Cleared of Racial Discrimination Charges By Former Black Employee

Report from Christianity Today:

A North Carolina federal district court has found that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) did not discriminate against Kimberly McCallum, formerly the only African-American employee in the group's Global Ministries office, in terminating her employment as an administrative assistant.
The court held that the BGEA's ministerial exception claim was inapplicable because McCallum's position was administrative, not pastoral. However, the court also dismissed McCallum's Title VII discrimination claim, finding no racial motivation in the BGEA's dismissal.

McCallum sued the BGEA after her position as an administrative assistant was eliminated. She claimed that the BGEA fired her in 2007 after she complained that African-American churches were not receiving equal invitation to participate in BGEA programming.

According to Christianity Today, they previously reported an earlier ruling in the case in 2011, which found that the discrimination case could continue.
